2009 Kay Brothers Block 6 Shiraz
Lighter colour than the Hillside, despite coming from the original 1896 1.8ha Hillside block of 117-year-old vines. Hand-picked, fermented in 1896 fermenters, basket-pressed, and matured for over two years in new American and Baltic oak barriques. The intensity of the fruit flavours is remarkable, although I’m not sure about the duck confit flavours ex the back label; the intense fruit has made fight work of all that oak, and the tannins are mouthwatering. James Halliday 95 Points, Drinking 2014 – 2022.
