1999 Salon Cuvee S Blanc de Blanc Champagne
Disgorged October 2010, the 1999 Salon Cuvee S Blanc de Blanc Champagne is the 37th vintage of this famous Blanc de Blancs from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The 99′ Salon has a light mousse in the glass, with the bouquet beautifully defined with hints of white truffle and cold limestone. There is wonderful mineralité on the tense, poised palate and is perhaps less “Zen-like” than the 1996 with just a suggestion of brioche towards the finish. This is a class act for sure. Tasted March 2011. Robert Parker 95 Points, Drinking Now – 2050.
NV krug Rose Champagne
Krug Rose Grande Cuvée As scarce as hens teeth, this is tailor made for the person who has everything. It’s mighty reputation is just as big as the price, and this Rose champagne is just the thing for impressing that special someone. It is an impossibly complex blend of aged reserve wines and base wine of the blending year. It marries finesse with all the traditional Krug complexity: It’s a bit more elegant than the usual rich style from Krug, which makes it extra appealing. Strawberries, dried roses, citrus and toastiness decorate the nose, whilst the palate is dry and elegant, with bright red fruit and citrus flavours, and ultra-fine bubble, a touch of creaminess, and an almost floral finish. Then a stupendously fine finish and aftertaste. James Halliday 97 Points, Drinking Now – 2022.
NV Billecart-Salmon Brut Rose Champagne
The Billecart-Salmon Brut Rose is by far my favourite rose champagne, so fresh and mouth-watering. It is made without the addition of red wine (as are most); instead it is a blend of 35 per cent Pinot Noir, 35 per cent Pinot Meunier and 30 per cent chardonnay, cold-fermented in stainless steel with cultured yeasts. The intensely flowery bouquet is followed by a palate crammed with strawberry and dried flower flavours, then a joyous finish. James Halliday 96 Points, Drinking Now – 2018
